Are eggs healthy?

Yes. Eggs are a nutritious everyday food, providing good-quality protein alongside a useful range of vitamins and minerals.

One particularly interesting nutrient is choline. It plays several important roles in the body, and dietary surveys suggest many people consume less than recommended amounts. Eggs are one of the richer everyday food sources of choline, and a couple of eggs can make a useful contribution to your daily intake.

That makes choline a more specific reason to value eggs than simply saying they're "nutritious." Alongside it, you get protein and a range of other nutrients in a food that's inexpensive, versatile and quick to cook.

None of that makes eggs a superfood, and no single ingredient determines overall health on its own. The wider pattern of eating still matters much more than any one food. But as part of a varied diet, eggs are a solid everyday option.
