Allergens and Dietary Needs
Omelette Lean recipes are built around eggs. Many also contain cheese or other dairy ingredients. Individual recipes may contain fish, mustard, wheat, nuts or other allergens.
If you have an allergy or are cooking for someone who does, check the particular recipe and every ingredient you intend to use before you shop or cook.
Check the Products You Buy
A familiar ingredient is not always a single ingredient. Mustard, cooked meats, sausages, sauces, cheese alternatives and other prepared foods can contain allergens you might not expect.
Products and recipes can change. Check the label on the pack you are using, even if you have bought that product before. If an ingredient is sold loose or prepared for you and its allergen information is unclear, ask the seller before using it.
Making Substitutions
If you are lactose intolerant, a suitable lactose-free cheese may work in a recipe. If you avoid dairy, you may be able to leave cheese out or use an alternative that meets your needs. Check the alternative’s ingredients too.
Vegetarian swaps can introduce different allergens. Tofu, for example, commonly contains soy. A substitute also changes the meal’s nutritional values, so use the figures on the original recipe as estimates for the original ingredients only.
If you have a food allergy or coeliac disease, use ingredients and preparation methods that are safe for your circumstances, including avoiding cross-contact in the kitchen. If you cannot establish whether an ingredient is suitable, do not use it.
Because eggs are central to the recipes, Omelette Lean is unlikely to suit someone who needs to avoid eggs.
Before You Cook
-
Read the full recipe, including any optional side or substitution you plan to use.
-
Check the labels on all packaged ingredients.
-
Check again when you change brands or substitute a product.
-
Use clean utensils and preparation surfaces where cross-contact is a concern.
The recipe tells you what to make. The labels on the actual products you use are essential to deciding whether the meal is suitable for you.
